Belsize Park Home Renovation: Bespoke Kitchen and Joinery by HUX
This four-bedroom Edwardian townhouse in Belsize Park was redesigned to reflect the individuality of its owners while meeting the demands of everyday family life. At the centre of the design is a bold yet refined kitchen, its striking colour palette reflecting the client’s global travels and heritage. But the craftsmanship doesn’t stop there—bespoke joinery flows through the living spaces, bedrooms, and even the children’s rooms, ensuring that every corner of the home carries the same timeless elegance and thoughtful practicality.

The Client Brief: Balancing Personality with Functionality
The young family who purchased the property wanted a home that felt joyful, layered, and full of character. They were drawn to strong colour and bold detail but also needed solutions that made day-to-day life easy and intuitive.
Working in partnership with Zulufish, HUX was commissioned to design and manufacture a bespoke kitchen that would act as the hub of the home, while also delivering a consistent design language across the bootroom, living room, dressing areas, and children’s bedrooms. The challenge was to strike a balance between vibrant, individual design and classic detailing that would endure.

Kitchen & Boot Room: Bold Colour Meets Functional Elegance
The kitchen is the centrepiece of the Eton Avenue home, where bold design choices meet the quiet sophistication of bespoke craftsmanship. Designed in collaboration with the family, the cabinetry features a stepped deco-shaker style, finished in Paint & Paper Library’s Velvet Blue. This vibrant yet timeless tone transforms the space, lending character and personality while still harmonising with the wider interiors.

To complement the cabinetry, HUX specified satin brass handles and pull bars, which add warmth and refinement to the rich blue tones. The worktops are finished in crisp white quartz, offering both a clean contrast and a durable surface ideal for family cooking. The result is a striking, luxury shaker kitchen in London that perfectly balances style and practicality.

Functionality was central to the design. A steel-framed glazed shelving unit allows favourite pieces to be displayed without overwhelming the room, while a bespoke bookshelf integrated at the rear of the island adds storage and an element of charm. The island itself provides generous seating for family and guests, acting as the hub for cooking, socialising, and entertaining.

Extending from the kitchen, a fully tailored boot room was designed in the same cabinetry style and finishes. This ensures a seamless design connection while adding the practical benefit of concealed storage for coats, shoes, and bags. The boot room’s bespoke joinery demonstrates how intelligent storage solutions can be integrated elegantly into family homes, maximising usability without compromising on design.

Living Room Joinery: Airy, Asymmetric, and Light-Filled
In the living room, HUX designed a bespoke shelving wall that feels contemporary yet timeless. Constructed in black ash veneer, the joinery features an asymmetrical layout of open shelves that float lightly against the wall, allowing the cabinetry to double as both storage and display. By removing the back panels, the design feels less heavy and more architectural, giving the impression of a sculptural installation rather than conventional cabinetry.

Integrated LED strip lighting highlights objects and books on the shelves, while John Cullen Lighting minims bring an additional layer of warmth and atmosphere. This combination of material richness, clever proportions, and lighting integration demonstrates how living room joinery in London homes can be both functional and a true focal point.

Master Bedroom & Dressing: Understated Luxury
In the master suite, the focus shifted to creating a serene and elegant retreat. A discreet stud wall was introduced to form a private dressing area, giving the family both practicality and privacy. Bespoke wardrobes with three-panel shaker doors were hand-painted in a soft eggshell finish, ensuring the joinery fitted seamlessly with the period detailing of the room.

Satin brass Armac Martin handles add refinement, while an elegant floating dressing table enhances usability without compromising space. The intricate plaster cornice was carefully extended and wrapped around the joinery, ensuring the design remained fully integrated with the home’s Edwardian architecture.

This attention to detail elevates the scheme, turning functional wardrobes into a cohesive part of the bedroom’s overall architecture—an approach that defines luxury bedroom joinery in London.

Children’s Rooms: Playful Storage Meets Smart Design
The joinery continued into the children’s bedrooms, where HUX’s design team combined playful elements with highly practical storage. In the daughter’s room, under-stair cabinetry leading to a mezzanine level was fitted with Muuto Dots wooden handles arranged in varying directions. This detail gave the joinery a whimsical, tactile quality that reflects a child’s sense of fun while still offering ample storage.

In the son’s room, the design embraced a mix of matte and textured finishes, paired with bespoke leather handles for a unique character. Functional under-stair cabinets provide discreet storage, keeping the room organised without losing its sense of individuality. These details show how children’s room joinery can be tailored to both personality and practicality, supporting family living while adding moments of design interest.
