Eleven Golden Rules for Bespoke Kitchen Design
Designing a bespoke kitchen involves balancing functionality and aesthetics, tailored to your exact requirements. Bespoke means total freedom of expression, but with this comes carefully considered decision-making, to make your bespoke kitchen sing with effortless style and functional brilliance.
So let’s turn your kitchen design up to 11:

1. Use
How will you use the kitchen? Is It for socialising and entertaining or more functional? Do you want to integrate a breakfast cabinet or a home bar? Do you want an island that you can sit at? How will the kitchen integrate with the dining space? Do you need a snug seating area or kids play area within the wider kitchen space?

2. Workflow
Think about the “golden triangle” — the relationship between the sink, oven/hob, and refrigerator. Taking this idea further we like to create mini zones within the kitchen – be that a prep area, cooking zone and utility space, grouping the sink, dishwasher and bin. Building on best practise principles we tailor the design to your specific workflow.

3. Personalised Storage
Bespoke means cabinets in all shapes and sizes, while maximising cabinetry, drawers, and pantry space. Consider deep drawers for pots, pull-out shelves for easy access, larder and breakfast bar units and custom spice racks and storage solutions, all designed around your specific requirements. Our design will be based on what you specifically need to store.

4. Hero Elements
Every kitchen needs some key focal points. What is going to be the statement piece? A feature island? Home bar? Book-matched marble splashback, feature oven or bespoke extractor? How can we introduce some specialist materials like liquid metal, metalwork and specialist finishes? Can we introduce curves or fluted elements?

5. Craftsmanship
Focus not just on the finishes and the material palette but also the smaller details; the joins and corners, inlays and handle details will elevate your kitchen to another level.

6. Lighting
Layer your lighting scheme to balance task and mood. Where do you need task lighting, and where can we use lighting as a feature to create ambience? The lighting schemes in our kitchens are a critical part of the mood lighting of the wider room. Understand how this will relate to the natural light coming into the kitchen.

7. Appliances
Choose your appliances based on your cooking habits. Do you need a double oven? A full height fridge and separate freezer? Built-in or freestanding? Wine storage? Ensure they fit the layout and design style.

7. Worktops
Choose durable, easy-to-clean worktops and splashbacks. Quartzite is our recommended natural stone surface, combining the look and natural veining of marble with the durability of granite. Dekton is a versatile man-made alternative.

8. Practicality
No matter how good a kitchen looks it has to be practical and able to stand the test of time. A good extractor system, be that downdraft or a conventional hood is essential, especially if you are a keen cook.

9.Ergonomics
Consider ergonomics carefully: Place things at comfortable heights — ovens not too low, worktops not too high, if you have children how will they use the space? Do you want worktops at split levels? Tailor the functionality to your family.

9. Budget
Prioritise what matters most. The major cost drivers are stone, appliances, door design and the material palette. If you need to value engineer choose simpler hard-wearing internal finishes.
