Whitehall Project: Bespoke Kitchen Design and Luxury Joinery in London
At HUX, every project begins with a vision—an ambition to create bespoke joinery that feels deeply personal, intelligently functional, and timeless in its design. The Whitehall Project embodies this philosophy, showcasing a luxury kitchen and joinery scheme that balances bold contrasts with subtle detailing.

Located in a classic London townhouse, the client’s brief was to create a space that reflected their appreciation for modern design while offering a backdrop to their art collection and a setting for family life. With careful attention to colour, texture, and craftsmanship, HUX designed a bespoke kitchen in light blue cabinetry, accented with tactile finishes and elegant brass details.

The Client Vision & Brief
The client, Laylah Holmes of Holmes Bespoke, wanted a kitchen that would serve as the hub of family life while doubling as a striking centrepiece for entertaining. A lover of art and travel, they sought a design that felt refined, layered, and international in flavour.
The brief called for:
- A kitchen with personality — one that made a statement.
- Durable, high-quality finishes that would age gracefully and withstand daily use.
- Bespoke details that balanced functionality with design sophistication.
- Cohesion across the wider living space through joinery and material continuity.
HUX’s challenge was to create joinery that reflected the client’s individuality while ensuring timeless appeal.

Design & Material Palette
At the heart of the project is a striking colour palette that sets the tone for the entire space.
- Cabinetry: A mix of micro-shaker doors hand-finished in Farrow & Ball’s Light Blue No.22, paired with bold jet-black joinery for dramatic contrast.
- Worktops: Polished Champagne Quartzite, chosen for its creamy base and delicate veining, which brings both luxury and practicality to the design.
- Handles & Fixtures: Corston antique brass handles and a patinated brass Quooker tap add warmth and texture, tying in with the metallic accents throughout the home.
- Internals: Premium solid oak dovetail drawer boxes with bespoke cutlery and utensil organisers, elevating everyday use with tactile craftsmanship.
This palette of light and dark, cool and warm, ensures the kitchen feels chic and inviting while maintaining its functional heart.

Key Features of the Whitehall Kitchen
Micro-Shaker Elegance
The cabinetry design takes a contemporary approach to shaker style, with slim beading across doors and drawers. This subtle detailing introduces texture without overwhelming the scheme, providing a clean canvas for the bolder material choices.
Quartzite Statement Worktops
The Champagne Quartzite worktops serve as both a visual anchor and a practical surface. Their creamy tones soften the dark cabinetry, while the natural veining creates a unique, organic counterpoint to the sleek joinery.

Brass Detailing Throughout
Polished brass elements, from Corston hardware to the Quooker boiling water tap, add a touch of glamour. These details catch the light, creating an interplay of shine and shadow that enhances the layered aesthetic.
Reeded Extractor & Glass Detailing
A custom reeded extractor housing introduces vertical rhythm, while reeded glass cabinet doors in the adjoining dining area echo the texture. These features not only conceal functional elements but also add architectural interest.

Integrated Appliances
The kitchen integrates a full range of appliances seamlessly into the cabinetry, from tall fridges to discreet dishwashers. The result is a space that feels streamlined yet fully equipped for family life and entertaining.

Function Meets Elegance
The true success of the Whitehall kitchen lies in its ability to balance daily function with design flair.
- Organisation: Bespoke internal joinery, including oak cutlery trays, spice racks, and pull-out storage, ensures every item has its place.
- Lighting: Integrated LED strips highlight shelving and worktops, creating mood and functionality in equal measure.
- Flow: The kitchen layout encourages both family cooking and entertaining, with the island acting as a natural gathering point.
Here, practicality never compromises aesthetics, instead, the two are designed to enhance one another.

Dining Area Joinery
The bespoke joinery continues seamlessly into the dining space, where it balances refined aesthetics with everyday practicality. Flanking the room, tall reeded glass-front cabinets provide elegant display opportunities while discreetly concealing household essentials. This subtle textural detail softens the cabinetry and introduces a dynamic play of light and shadow.
The cabinetry is finished in Farrow & Ball Jet Black, creating a dramatic contrast against the lighter walls and flooring. Paired with sleek brass hardware and a richly veined dark stone worktop, the joinery anchors the dining space with a sense of sophistication and depth.

Beyond its visual presence, the design prioritises usability. Closed storage below keeps clutter out of sight, while the glass-fronted display above allows for curated styling—artwork, glassware, and treasured objects—bringing character and personality into the room.

Living Space Joinery: A Seamless Focal Point
Beyond the kitchen, HUX designed a striking bespoke media and storage unit to elevate the living area. Finished in a deep, modern tone that complements the rest of the home, the joinery provides both practical storage and an elegant architectural frame for the television.

Open shelving allows for curated styling of books, artwork, and decorative pieces, while the closed base cabinetry keeps everyday items neatly concealed. This balance of display and hidden storage ensures the space feels both lived-in and refined.

The Visual & Sensory Impact
Stepping into the Whitehall kitchen is a sensory experience. The light blue cabinetry sets a serene tone, while the jet-black dining joinery provide drama. The cool smoothness of quartzite contrasts with the warm patina of brass, while reeded textures introduce subtle play of light and shadow.
The result is a kitchen that is not just functional but also atmospheric—a room that shifts effortlessly from bright family mornings to glamorous evening entertaining.

Outcome & Client Experience
The completed Whitehall kitchen delivers on every aspect of the brief. It is:
- A hub for family living, with thoughtful storage and durable finishes.
- A showcase of modern craftsmanship, with bespoke joinery that celebrates texture and detail.
- A space for entertaining, offering both practicality and elegance.
For the client, the kitchen is now more than a cooking space—it is a reflection of their personality and lifestyle, a true expression of bespoke London design.
