A Modern Scandinavian Style Family Home

This stunning six-bedroom Victorian semi in Acton was transformed into a light, free-flowing yet subtly textured family home, with HUX appointed to provide joinery solutions. The inspiration was modern and trendy Scandinavian style: what strikes you immediately are the views – the uninterrupted view from room to room through the depth of the building as well as those across to the stunning garden.

The bright hallway is dressed in stunning geometric patterned tiles and a quad pendant light, giving a sophisticated industrial look. Steel and glass doors frame the tiled hallway, punctuating the black/yellow-accented scheme with graphic lines and introducing glimpses into the living area beyond.

Concrete, glass, steel, and wood: the building blocks of the house used by our design & build and interior design partners Zulufish to add softness, colour and warmth. We therefore worked with the same vision that our project partners brought to the project, and in this way, we married the inside of the building with beautifully designed joinery.

Through the floor to ceiling crittal door you enter into a very long open plan formal lounge and TV area with a stunning metallic polished plaster fireplace wall with backlit LED shelving creating a signature look, and dropped down cupboards in Xylocleaf Vulcano FB47 Ares, all designed, crafted and installed by HUX London.

Beautiful artistic objects and sculptures are housed on the shelving bringing colour, light and style to the sleek interior led scheme.

The beautiful butterscotch polished plaster walls are complemented by contemporary furniture and statement cutting-edge design pieces to create a cocooning feeling.

The featured abstract wallcovering in the TV lounge area from Feathr , displays the experimental, organic and textural nature of Slaughter’s art and is a striking way to energise the room, reflecting or contrasting with the space around it.

The room is filled with iconic design pieces and modern furniture defined by simplicity, subtle sophistication and clean lines.

As you move into the kitchen and dining area the three fixed glazing skylights along the garden end and the fine frame doors at the back flood the inside of the room with natural light, and maximise the view of the garden. This worked hand in hand with the architectural elements which were very modern and pared back.

The seamless polished concrete floor complements the industrial décor beautifully and teams perfectly with the other elements of the kitchen such as the black metallic finish of the appliances, adding a reflection to the space that ties in with the gleaming floor. The kitchen is fitted with dark charcoal matt kitchen units and a pure clean white marble worktop to give a sense of continuity.

The exposed brick wall links the kitchen and lounge area, further complemented by a mustard sofa and the long windows which light up the space, creating a home that’s spacious, interesting, and leaning towards the minimalist.

The spectacular lighting is the focal feature of the dining area with two pendant lights, which hang over the black lacquered table and defines the dining space. The clients love entertaining and the sociable, dining table makes the most of the space.

A statement bar was also installed in the kitchen, decorated with plants to bring an earthy, arboreal element while maintaining the sharp, refined feel of the scheme.

Exquisite detail and the exceptional layered selection of textures and materials combine to create a luxurious contemporary living space. By working closely with interior designers at Zulufish you understand how this collaboration can create harmony across the design and help turn houses into homes.
